Description of the test

After creating the initial version of starfish animation, we need to know what the users' think about this animation. By conducting user testing, we not only would know if this animation was a success but also would receive the perspective or insights from our target audience. This user testing was sent to users who like to create a piece of drawing in their daily life since we would like feedback regarding the animation's aesthetic. We believe these users will provide us some valuable insights about this starfish animation.

Purpose of the test

The purpose of this user testing is to validate the starfish animation as well as receive some feedback of what people think about this animation. Besides, an inspiration of further polishing the animation was also be sought in this user testing.

User testing design

There were three questions in this user testing:

  1. Do you like the way this starfish move?
  2. Do you think this movement better for a good character or a bad character?
  3. Would you change anything for this design?

And a short answer question for recommendation and suggestion.

Analysis

From the outcome, we found that only 33.3% of users like the way the starfish move and 26.7% of users don't like it. In the short answer sections, we have got 6 feedback out of the 15 users. Majority of people who answer the last two questions were suggesting the team changing the way this starfish move. Some of the responses were very clear and practical. For example, "Move its legs" and "It's like some part of it is moving and the other parts are not moving." These two responses gave the design team some inspiration of moving five arms of the starfish.

For the second question, majority of users indicate that they reckon the animation as a bad character movement. This is probably the only successful part of the initial animation design. The design team will take the feedback from users in this user testing and further working on the starfish animation.

Summary

To sum up, the way this starfish move should be changed and make the starfish move not just partially but all of it in order to meet the consistency of the design. Although the initial animation didn't get much positive feedback, it did get some valuable suggestion from this user testing.
