Getting multiple cards from packs

Card packs offer a random collection of often rare cards for a bundled price and are generally the best way to rapidly expand your collection. A card pack can be attain when you win a game or when you complete a story mode.

Each card pack can be purchase for 500 'Golden Eggs'(game currency).

Each card pack will contain 4 cards from the current game set and will be randomized.

It is possible to find multiple cards of high quality within a single pack. The card packs are the most cost-efficient means of obtaining cards, but also one of the most random as you would not know which card you might get. This method offers a quick but unpredictable way of expanding the player's deck.

The card pack page can be accessed from the Main Menu as well as after a game win when the player is awarded a card pack.

However if the player needs a specific card, it would be better to just purchase the individual card as it is.

Details such as the amount of cards the player currently holds will not affect which cards will appear in the pack.

Card Rarity type

  1. The first slot of card in a card pack is chosen randomly from card with rank 1 and 2.
  2. The second slot of card in a card pack is chosen randomly from card with rank 1, 2 and 3.
  3. The third slot of card in a card pack is chosen randomly from card with rank 2, 3 and 4.
  4. The fourth slot of card in a card pack is chosen randomly from card with rank 3, 4 and 5.

User Testing

The following user testing plan was designed to evaluate the reward screen.

Step 1 - Navigate to the reward screen (card pack opening screen).
Step 2 - Open a pack.
Step 3 - Navigate to the card library.
Step 4 - Sell the cards that you retrieved from the pack.
Step 5 - Navigate back to the reward screen.
Step 6 - Use the money gathered from selling to buy a card pack.

Post-Test Interview

  1. If told that you have been given a card booster pack, is it easy to find the screen where you would open this reward?
  2. Did the reward screen have an aesthetic that you associate with being awarded prizes? Was it consistent with the rest of the game (main page, splash screen, card library/Deck View)?
  3. Did the animations enhance your experience?
  4. After opening a pack, was it obvious where you would go to sell them?
  5. Was there enough visual feedback when buying a pack?

Results

The test plan was carried out with a 3rd year I.T. student at UQ:

Answers:

  1. Yes, though there are a lot of buttons on the main page, "open card packs" was a fairly clear label to follow.
  2. Yes, the screen was obviously a treasure room, with a lot of yellow and gold colours, suggesting treasure and rewards. It was a different colour scheme to the previous pages, but I noticed that the buttons were the same as on the main menu. And I think a different colour scheme was appropriate here, because it would've been boring if it was another green hill.
  3. Yes, particularly the sparkly bits, they made it clear that it wasn't just a normal card.
  4. After a few moments it made sense that the "card library" button would be the one to follow.
  5. I think the changing text was enough.

The test plan was carried out with a 2nd year psychology student at UQ:

Answers:

  1. Yes, its clear from the main menu.
  2. The colours were different from the green main menu, but they made sense for a room filled with treasure.
  3. Yeah they were pretty cool.
  4. Kind of, I went back to the main menu before I realised that there was a button.
  5. Yes.
