Surgeries

Preparing for a surgery

We give metacam/meloxicam before the surgery. Dilute 1.5 mg/mL metacam: 10 uL into 290 uL water and then give the bird as much as they will drink, about 10 uL force fed with a dull needle.

We now use Room 123E for all our surgeries and we have our own isoflurane machine and scavenger. The below information is therefore outdated!

Reserve the surgical suite in NAF (NAF 115 shared rodent surgery) on the shared room calendar: https://www.olac.berkeley.edu/pi-resources

  • Log in as TheunissenLab, pass: Theunissen

Schedule rental of the isoflurane machine and the isoflurane scavenger: https://www.olac.berkeley.edu/research-service-request
