OLAC Services
OLAC (Office of Laboratory Animal Care) provides us with many services. If you have questions contact a veterinarian, they tend to be really helpful. The website is pretty good, too. https://www.olac.berkeley.edu.
Currently we are using slack (ucbolac.slack.com), with our own channel "theunissen-lab-olac" for most interactions.
They also sometimes send emails via the OASIS DB. Frederic can add people to this list.
If you really need to find a vet just go upstairs in the NAF and knock on their office doors, but they also respond quickly to slack. The vet staff email is [email protected].
- Fill out a pharmacy purchase request: https://www.olac.berkeley.edu/pharmacy-purchase-request
- You don't need to know exactly where to buy it, they seem to just find it for you (in my (Bill's) experience)
- Fill in the requested information. This includes some numbers for the current animal use protocol and grant. As of Nov 2020 these numbers are:
- Animal Use Protocol: 2016-09-9157
- Fund: 61729
- Org: 26697
- For Heparin ask for: heparin, sodium injection usp, 10 mL
You can put bird carcasses in the freezer in NAF necropsy. If you want them to do a necropsy on it you should put it in the fridge instead, although I'm not sure what this entails.
