Design Feedback

After Sprint 1, it was evident that there were a lot of inconsistencies with the design style and colour schemes between each building. For this sprint, a Google survey was conducted to determine which art style the studio as a whole preferred to create consistency and a sense of uniformity between the buildings. Additionally, the building needed two designs, a level one design and a level two design, to fit with the studio's vision of building level ups options available for the player.

The Google survey only had 19 responses, which is approximately a third of the studio. Although this was not the whole studio, the designs finalised for this sprint were based on these results which will be discussed below.

Barracks

This was the order of designs, from left to right, of the barracks in the Google survey, of Design 1 to Design 4. The town hall and mining camp will follow the same order with their various designs.
From the responses given, it showed that Design 1 was the most popular art style so this was chosen to be one of the final designs for the barracks building. This design was chosen to be the level two barracks, while the level one barracks was created to have a more worn down look which can be seen below. There are transitional stages as well to show the change from level one to level two if building animations are completed and implemented for the game.

Town Hall

From the Google survey responses, it showed that Design 1 was the most popular art style so this was chosen to be one of the final designs for the town hall building. This design was chosen to be the level two town hall, while the level one barracks was created to have a more worn down look which can be seen below.

Mining Camp

Unfortunately, for the mining camp designs, there was only two designs, which limited the choices that the studio could choose, unlike the town hall and barracks designs which had more options for people to choose from.

However, from the Google survey responses, it showed that Design 1 was the most popular art style so this was chosen to be one of the final designs for the town hall building. This design was chosen to be the level one mining campe, while the level two mining camp was created to look similar but with more notable details and features which can be seen below.

Colour Scheme

This was the order of designs, from left to right, of the colour schemes in the Google survey based on the existing buildings that were grouped into matching colour schemes or groups whose colours complemented each other.

From the Google survey, it can be seen that there is a clear winner in terms of the colour scheme, which luckily, corresponded with the preferred art styles for each of the buildings, so there was little to no redesigning required, only for the level up designs.
