• EF shortly briefed the participants on the first session of the Inter-Programme Expert Team on Data Representation Development (IPET-DD-1), held in Zagreb, Croatia, 18-20 February 2019; A presentation was delivered remotely by NH on the process that is currently being followed by TT-WMD using Github for the evolution of the code tables; It was well received and IPET-DD is willing to follow the same approach for all other code tables.
• EF informed the participants that all the relevant issues registered in Github had been resolved and closed in the last few weeks, which allowed to produce a release 1.0 of the WMDS code tables - the work done by NH and LI on the code tables in Github was much appreciated.
• Recognizing the huge amount of changes contained in version 1.0 of the code tables, some of them with the need of a thorough review, EF proposed not to follow the CBS FastTrack procedure for the consultation/approval of the new version of the code tables, at this point, instead he proposed to publish them as experimental; This is related to the WMDR/Schema which needs more time for testing; The proposed approach was accepted by the participants, providing that the code tables are published before Congress-18; EF expects to publish the code tables in the WMO codes registry within the coming 3 to 4 weeks – Action.
• It was agreed that future releases of OSCAR/Surface should be aligned with the releases of code tables; The next release of the code tables will be tentatively in the Summer 2019.
• NH and LI reported on the open issues in Github, and it was agreed to proceed as follows:
o Issue #82 refers to issue #19 related to changes to table 7-07 that were not integrated in the current release – this will go for the next release to be prepared on development branch;
o Issue #73 about the workflow in Github – the “editorial” type of issues will be distinguished from the “content” type, the later will be tagged with “Discussion needed” and 30 days deadlines will be setup; There is no need to setup deadlines for editorial issues.
• It was also agreed that a separate Github repository is needed for the WMDR/Schema - Action for EF.
• The adding of TT-WMD members to the WMDS repository in Github needs to be reviewed - Action for EF and LN; TT-WMD members should activate the “watch” option to allow them to follow the activities there.
• It was agreed to schedule a dedicated discussion to follow-up with the actions from TT-WMD-7.
• The need for representatives from the marine and from the climate communities in TT-WMD was mentioned – Action for LN to follow-up with the replacement of Joe Swaykos; Action for DS to discuss with the relevant CCl Chair(s) and with his supervisors about becoming official member of TT-WMD; He expects to provide feedback within one month.
• It was agreed to organize the next telcon discussion in middle April - Action for LN to setup a Doodle poll with option dates from 15 to 17 April 2019.
• On AOB, JK raised the need to have a decision on the inclusion of the following programmes in the Program/Network affiliation table: ICAO, E-Profile, EGVAP - Action for LN to follow-up.
• Also on AOB, JK asked about the assigning of WIGOS Station Identifiers (WSI) for weather radars registered in the WMO Radar Database (WRD); Action for LN to reply to the email from Mustafa Sert (Turkish State Meteorological Service) that radar stations established before 1 July 2016 should have WSI with the format "0-20010-0-WMOStationNumber"; The radar stations registered in OSCAR/Surface with WSI format "0-20000-0-WMOStationNumber" may correspond to either: radars that are co-located with land stations, or an error with importing stations from Vol.A – Action for JK to check this within the next few days. LN mentioned that the NFP for OSCAR/Surface should be informed of any changes/corrections to be made to the WSI of radars.
• DS mentioned the interest of Singapore to contribute to the work on the evolution of the WMDS and WMDR schema, he will send his contacts at the Singapore Weather Service – Action for DS to be then followed-up by LN.
