RUA: Primary Fire
RUA: Primary Fire - Product Spec
Authors: Chris Cantwell
Date: [9/10/2016]
GOAL
The Reconfigurable Universal Accelerator (RUA) feature allows the player to propel some "fuel" in order to move throughout a level as well as damage enemies and induce changes in the level environment. The device can be configured to propel different types of fuel that can have different effects.
OVERVIEW
This is the core feature of this game. The ship has no formal weapon, and no innate ability to control movement aside from the physics of this propulsion. The RUA will have a primary fire mode that allows it to propel a plasma projectile, which will induce a back-reaction force (conservation of momentum. MV = M1V1 + M2V2) giving the ship some velocity in the opposite direction. The plasma projectile will also damage enemies and destructible environmental objects.

USER STORIES
Alice begins playing Spark and notices that as she moves the mouse cursor around the ship rotates so that the RUA points at it. She presses the left mouse button and a ball of plasma is fired toward the cursor; her ship gains some velocity in the opposite direction. The plasma ball bursts when it impacts a wall.
Alice notices that the large ball of dark matter connected to the RUA seems to shrink when she fires. While moving through the level she happens upon a blob of what appears to be the same material. As she passes near the blob it is sucked into her ship and the ball connected to her RUA increases in size again. She realizes this must be her fuel reservoir. Later in the level her fuel reservoir disappears completely and she is left free floating without the ability to fire her RUA any more. She notices that at this point her ship health begins to drain. Upon reaching zero her ship is destroyed and she loses the level. (Dark matter also fuels ship systems, but it doesn’t deplete to do so)
