Here we explain our guidelines about tweaking the localization.
First, I advise you to visit the Localization on CK3 wiki. It explains how localization files work.
- Add new localization lines at the end of the file.
- If you remove localization lines, leave a gap (empty line).
- Write the localization of decision names, modifier names, event titles, trait names etc. while following these rules:
- Capitalize nouns, verbs and adjectives. Example:
Use Poisonous Gas
,Conjured Food for Poor
. - Skip articles:
- Except
the
article when it is the only object in the world or a proper noun. - Unless the article is important to the meaning.
- Examples:
Subdue Void Creature
,Increases §GDeath Knight Level Up Chance§!
,Restore the Empire of Zul
,Join the Black Empire
,All Means to an End
.
- Except
- Write them as short and as concise as possible.
- Capitalize nouns, verbs and adjectives. Example:
- Don't change
localization\english\wc_custom_titles_l_english.yml
. It's a generated file. If you want to override localization from it, add it intolocalization\replace\english\wc_title_replacements_l_english.yml
. If you work on other language translation, you don't need to copy thewc_title_replacements
file because you may just copy thewc_custom_titles
file. - Don't move the existing localization lines.
- If you change the line, increment its index, the number after
:
. It's done to keep all different languages up to date. If the English line has a bigger index than the German line, it means the German line needs to be updated. - You can use Meld with custom
".*
text filter to update your translations to a new index versionImage
- We use American English.
- The event window fits 700 characters. It's possible to add bigger text but in this case, they will become scrollable.
