The Local Food Economy (8)
The destiny of nations, depends upon the manner in which they feed themselves." -philosopher of gastronomy Brillat-Savarin
One of SEEDS primary purposes is to contribute to our evolution by creating the ecosystems necessary for localised food-systems, and with it humanity, to flourish...
SEEDS believes that our food system, if localized, would be one of the most powerful actions humanity can take to evolve and sustain our societies.
- SEEDS Integrates with existing platforms in the Peer to Peer food space through providing a superior economic experience. Allowing these organizations to charge less fees and generate more revenue. This is similar to how the internet was capable of complimenting the business strategy of brick and mortar shops.
- Peer-to-Peer food is not a new concept. However, creating a dedicated economy to economically support these platforms, producers and local communities to grow the movement- is.
- SEEDS facilitates an economic system that is founded on Local food creation. Facilitating food and economic security for local communities.
We're permaculturists, horticulturists, agriculturists and gardeners; chefs and bakers; stay at home parents and crafts-makers; micro-green growers and automated-farmers; fungal-fanatics and change-makers; social activists and philanthropists; purpose- driven foodies and sharing-economy techies; passionate stewards and so much more...
There are many of us who are striving towards a more beautiful food system. We feel it, we know its coming, and we're searching for a way to bring it forward. Up until now, it has been difficult for us to focus and unify our intentions and energy.
The problems of this world are global and systemic. So, if we are going to make an impact we’ll have to address it at a global and systemic level. We do this by creating a global platform for us to collaboratively address local needs with a unified purpose.
This continually evolving cooperative purpose will be responsive to ours and the Local Food Movements ever-changing demands and desires through the SEEDS DAC.
SEEDS is about focusing our collective wealth on a common goal; an aim to create healthier food systems and economies that can restore and regenerate our personal and planetary health!
A United Nations report from 2013, titled: “Wake up Before It’s too Late” claims small-scale organic farming is necessary to feed the world and prevent ecological collapse.
- Powerful Reasons for Why Humanity Needs a Better Food System
It's becoming increasingly clear (and accepted) that human and planetary health hinges on society's ability to create more regenerative, effective, and health-promoting food systems.
The SEEDS Ecosystem provides a systemic solution to the myriad of faults, frictions, and barriers inherent in our present food systems that have been driving the decline of our personal and planetary health.
SEEDS aims to support the Local Food Movement by creating a new economy to finance and support development along with providing the platforms for people to join and exchange.

SEEDS First Supports the People of the Local Food Movement
As you saw in "Why does humanity need a local food movement?", our societies desperately need better systems to support our local food producers. There are far too many beautiful humans who produce food at a loss year over year because they believe it is the right thing to do. We need to have systems that provides the maximum support so they, and our society with them, can thrive.
Presently, the majority of the people in the Local Food Movement devote enormous amounts of time, not to their passions of growing or crafting local food; but to our present economies demands. From supply-chain management; to funding gateways; bare-bones marketing; gathering and interpreting economic data; hosting, creating, and sustaining websites; managing customers; accounting and more.
Often times this requires the person to devote twice as much energy to learning and applying these systems, or partnering with someone who will. This partnership either halves the potential profit for the entrepreneur or requires the products to be sold for much more; and these small scale players aren't able to benefit from the economies of scale the larger established companies have (albeit while externalizing costs and degrading ecosystems).
This contributes to the relatively higher prices we see with locally produced food, the economic improbability of success, and the challenges of entering the space.
The SEEDS Ecosystem corrects and alleviates the burdens of these malfunctions. By providing online marketplaces (see Light Food) where many functions required to thrive are provided to you and the people in the local food space. So, you can redirect the majority of your time back to your passions and purpose.

The SEEDS Movement Providing a Platform for Organizations to Converge and Focus Our Collective Power: List of Our Present Organizational Collaborators
There are hundreds of organizations and millions of people all seeking to create a healthier world. Yet, it seems that our dominant societies have only continued along their health-degrading paths. It's essential that we focus our collective will and resources so we can create the change we need to.
SEEDS is a platform for all the presently disparate parties working towards healthier food systems to come together and combine our efforts. This provides us the opportunity to create one of the largest and most powerful organizations the world has ever seen; with the focus of creating healthier food systems with the use of a healthier economy.
There is a great deal of human effort committed to creating systems and gathering information that has already been created and gathered by other people.
There is half a dozen food delivery applications that are each building from scratch methods to deliver food. If these organizations were incentivized to share this information opposed to hoard it; we may see more collaboration and much greater insights and understanding gained as we no longer spend our time creating things that have already been created.

Organizations committed to using SEEDS**: (coming soon)**
We're still in the process of contacting and finishing communications with the organizations that are on our initial list. We do not want organizations deciding whether to collaborate with SEEDS based on present intent. This is why we are waiting to release our collaborators in full when we have finished our first rounds of communication.
An economy designed initially for and by the Local Food Movement with aim to support the vast diversity of movements focused on creating a healthier and more-equitable world.
As we spoke about in the economics section. Economies are incredible forces for directing and focusing human energy.
The Local Food Economy is an economic system that's primarily focused on growing, financing, and facilitating value's-directed food systems; creating a currency that is "backed" by local food; and providing an ecosystem of applications that supports the peer-to-peer life-cycle of food.
If you knew you would be able to buy a meal with Seeds, you'd likely be much more willing to accept them as payment for services; than if you knew you had to go through a potentially arduous or technical process to convert them into a means to meet your needs (as is the case with a variety of alternative currencies).

An Economy Backed by Food
One of the primary purposes behind SEEDS is to heal our food systems. The core developers of SEEDS (SEEDS Alchemists) will primarily create relationships with organizations and people in the food space.
In each region where Light launches and advertises SEEDS, we do so with a focus on food before we branch out into other markets. For Light, food is our foundation and our primary purpose. When Uber launched their ride-sharing platform in various cities. They did so by first building a supply of drivers to meet the potential demand. When Light goes to a city to spread SEEDS, we first approach and connect with the people in the Local and Peer-to-Peer Food Movements. This creates the foundations for food that underpins the SEEDS Ecosystem.
When our secondary market hears about and joins SEEDS. It will be once the foundations of food are established in their region. So, when they're asked if they will accept an alternative currency as payment; they know they can buy dinner with it that night and would likely be more willing to accept it.

Optimizing Existing Food Ordering and Delivery Platforms
SEEDS is designed to compliment the business models of existing food delivery platforms.
"Uber will be requesting a 30 percent cut of the bill on orders they deliver. The Post claims that higher than the sites Seamless and Grubhub which fees in the 12 percent to 24 percent range. Meanwhile, brands like Delivery.com, DoorDash, Postmates and Caviar all take somewhere between 15 percent and 23 percent of the check. And these percentages are often in addition to a delivery fee." - Food and Wine
For restaurants, provide a platform and brand that will generate more business for the restaurant in exchange for a commission fee.
For customers, provide a delivery service in exchange for a fee, where the platform retains some of this fee and passes some onto the driver.
A food order and delivery platform which was recently valued at over 2 Billion USD.
Deliveroo charges restaurants a 10% commission and charges customers a monthly fee of £7.99 or a £2.50 delivery fee on each Deliveroo order.
Light would assist deliveroo in re-hosting an additional website on top of the SEEDS Blockchain. Using a new domain such as Deliveroo.io or DeliverooSEEDS .com Light would assist Deliveroo in creating a website that integrates with Seeds and SEEDS.
They wouldn't have to alter their existing site or change their existing business model in any way.
Whenever customers engage with Deliveroo through SEEDS , Deliveroo would deliver the meal as they typically would. However, now on top of any fees obtained, Deliveroo would gain a reward for the economic contributions they bring to the SEEDS Economy.
If Deliveroo is rising in popularity and use they could plant a portion of the Seed reward to give them greater transaction volume to meet their increasing demand.
In 2016 Deliveroo had revenue in range of 126 million Pounds. This figure represents at least 1.26 billion Pounds flowing through Deliveroo (with a 10% commission), before factoring in delivery fees.
This means Deliveroo added at least 1.26 billion Pounds of economic activity to the GDP of Great Britain. If Deliveroo was operating entirely on SEEDS this would place a increased demand for the native currency, Seeds.
There are many variables that detail the additional demand pressure this would represent. However, for this example lets suggest that SEEDS protocols created an additional 126 million Pounds (10% of the additional activity) worth of Seeds to balance the supply of Seeds with the increased demand.
For simplicity we'll suggest there are 3 applications (with Deliveroo being one) on SEEDS creating an equal demand pressure on Seeds. Lets say for the year these platforms demand required SEEDS to create 378 million Pounds worth of Seeds.
Further, P2P transactions, POS (point of sale) purchases, and Seeds taken out of circulation through burning and planting; placed an additional demand pressure on Seeds resulting in 200 million Pounds worth of additional Seeds.
In total SEEDS would have created 578 million Pounds worth of Seeds for the year.
SEEDS distributes 15% of Seeds to application developers and organizations. Applications are ranked according to their level of contributions to SEEDS. For simplicity we'll suggest the platforms are equal and they each represented 33% share of contribution. This means that each organization will receive 1/3 of 15% of the newly created Seeds.
Under these simplified assumptions Deliveroo would have received a total of 28.9 million Pounds worth of Seeds that year for its contributions to SEEDS.
See: Food System Change-Makers, Join us for a whole list of additional benefits platforms receive on top of additional revenue when joining SEEDS. A key benefit, is that you be able to offer your customers an option to be economically rewarded to order on your platform, as they are able to use your service in addition to building their accounts on SEEDS.
If platforms are concerned with holding large amounts of cryptocurrency then LA could assist in providing and facilitating exchange gateways.
The upside is helping to redirect society into a healthier paradigm and gaining a whole list of benefits for your cause. The downside is potentially losing value of your initial and continual Seed commitment, which can start as small as you'd like as you test the platform.

The Future P2P Food Platforms
Platforms for P2P local food have been notoriously difficult find success. With a single track for revenue generation (charging fees) they have been slow to gain adoption. With SEEDS it would be possible to launch a P2P food platform with significantly less overhead without needing to charge fees for successful developers to generate revenue. See SEEDS Applications and App Developers for more.

An Anti-fragile Food System and Economy
Our present economic models are fragile. Colluding and self-interested bankers in the United States are capable of causing a global financial crash. Our food systems are fragile pest outbreaks in one country can cause food shortages in the next. The price of oil can disrupt entire economies and food supplies and is responsible for multiple wars. People should not starve simply because of oil prices, yet this is possible.
**SEEDS aims to localize our economies through keeping more value local, opposed to present siphoning by centralized mega-corporations and banks.
SEEDS aims to localize our food systems by financing and supporting (through a series of platforms) local food producers.**
As people begin to easily move into this new economy, we form a network of relationships where are needs begin to be met locally. If seen to its full potential all our food needs could be met locally and would not feel any disruption if global systems fail.
SEEDS economy redistributes the money created into regionally and Partner directed projects purposes creating foundations and improvements that reinforce the system. A SEEDS economy won't have the boom and bust cycles present in our national economies as money is not created with debt, and the systems protocols are better able to track and react to the health of the economy. There is no ability for central agents to manipulate the economy for personal gain.
Many technologies are creating more fragile and dependent systems. SEEDS is designed to do the opposite, and to create more resilient and sustainable systems that can continue with or without SEEDS.

In the U.S. Laws Are Changing to Open the Doors to Home Cooked
Just in time Laws are changing. California is at the cusp of passing a law that will allow people to cook and sell food from home.
The C[OOK Alliance is an organization at the front lines of pioneering the 2018 Homemade Food Operations Act.
"The first bill of its kind in the United States and will create massive economic opportunities for cooks across California. This bill will permit the small-scale sale of meals from home kitchens, improve public health safeguards around the existing informal food economy." -The COOK Alliance
This will open the floodgates for platforms to facilitate this new market of home-cooked meals. SEEDS will position itself at the forefront of this movement and help spread it across the globe.
