Teleconference 3 and 4.11.2020
Anna Milan edited this page Nov 5, 2020

4 revisions
- The team met 12-14 UTC, Nov. 3 and 10:30-11:45 UTC, Nov. 4.
- The team will meet 12-14 UTC, Dec. 9 and 10 to finalize proposals for FT2021-1 and discuss outstanding issues.
- When proposals are put in validation status, the Secretariat makes a new branch for each proposal (issue).
- Team members who make proposals are responsible for changing the branch to reflect the proposals and for making necessary updates through the validation process.
- The team does not use "pull request."
- The team decided to test a "validation branch" in FT2021-1 and see if it works. The Secretariat will merge all the branches of proposals that are ready for validation and adoption by FT2021-1 by November 26 into one branch (a "validation branch"), so that team members can use it for validation of multiple proposals.
- The team will review the process using a "validation branch" and modify/discontinue as necessary; the team needs to pay attention to the cases where validation takes long time and does not go to the next Fast Track.

BUFR sequence for DAYCLI (Issue 51)
- Denis presented issues of existing DAYCLI sequence (3 07 074) identified by ET-DRC (posted to Github).
- Among the issues, Assisting will be taken care of by the Secretariat and Monitoring by ET-OM/TT-WDQMS, and TT-TDCF focuses on BUFR format.
- Sergio will assist Denis to resolve BUFR questions and make initial suggestions for a new BUFR sequence, which will be developed based on the existing DAYCLI sequence (3 07 074).
- The team advised Denis to include WIGOS Station Identifiers and to research existing entries for snow definitions.
- The Secretariat will assist Denis to identify relevant experts in climate community to consult on DAYCLI requirements, including those of NCEI, USA.
- Denis and the team agreed that the realistic schedule would be the adoption by FT2021-2 (the sequence will be operational in November 2021) to secure the time for discussion within ET-DRC and for consultation with a broader climate community.
- Denis shared the workflow chart to clarify responsibilities of relevant teams (ET-DRC, ET-OM, TT-WDQMS, TT-TDCF, etc.).
WIGOS Station Identifier (Issue 50)
- A kick-off meeting was held on October 28 among SC-IMT/ET-OM/TT-WSI, SC-IMT/ET-Data/TT-TDCF and SC-ON/ET-WT.
- TT-TDCF needs to propose necessary amendments for Manual on Coders to INFCOM-1 (part III) meeting planned in February 2021.
- Regarding the communication channel with satellite operators, CGMS Task Force can be used but it takes a while because its meeting is planned May-June 2021.
- A concern was expressed around the use of WSI for satellites, because there are multiple existing satellite identifiers and WSI could introduce complication if WSI is used before NWP centers are ready.
- The requirement of the use of WSI for satellites comes from users, not from satellite operators, to enable to integrate satellites into a broader WIGOS context.
- The team will continue discussion on Github.
