# Defaults
Defaults are a list of skills or attributes a new skill level will use by default (B170). Training and character points take it from there. Almost all skills default to an attribute or another skill, or ten. Some skills do not default. Try Judo untrained and even the white belts will laugh at you.

Defaults also applies to Melee Weapon Usage and Range Weapon Usage, because ... those are skills.

# Equipment
Equipment is any physical object in the game world (e.g.: pencils, bullets, comic books, a '06 Ford Model N). And maybe some that aren't. This includes containers that represent physical gear (e.g.: a backpack, a coffee cup), which have capacity limits and weight. Containers can also be used as logical organizers in inventory, just make sure they have no weight or cost.

There are two types of Equipment. The stuff that's carried, which is Carried Equipment. And the stuff stacked in your closet, that comically falls on you when you open the door. It's funny to the rest of us, at any rate. That is Other Equipment. Both types are discussed here. As it relates to GCS, the only difference is that Carried Equipment counts against encumbrance and can be equipped.

Equipment is placed in [Equipment List](./Equipment%20List.md "Equipment List") blocks, which are found in Equipment Libraries, [Character Sheets](./Character%20Sheets.md "Character Sheets"), and [templates](./Character%20Sheets.md "Character Templates").

All equipment lists, equipment containers, and equipment items have a context menus. The menu bar options *Item* and *Edit* apply to all equipment. An equipment list must be the active panel for the Edit and Item menus to work.

Extended value and weight are calculated based on quantity.

*Ignore weight for skills* decreases encumbrance based penalties for skill that are effected so (e.g.: Karate, Climbing). This means the equipment does not cause a minus to the roll. For example, a 50' rope worn as a sash, might not impact climbing. This only impacts skill use, not encumbrance, dodge, move, or anything else.

# Melee Weapon Usage
Melee Weapon Usage is a single means by which a melee weapon is used to inflict damage. Damage done is modified by the available fields below. Non-Melee uses could be added, like using it as a pen, but the purpose of these entries is to track damage types (e.g.: thrust, swing). Besides, are you really just *"signing an autograph"* on your opponent's chest?

Melee Weapon Usage is found on equipment [Melee Weapon Usage List](./Melee%20Weapon%20Usage%20List.md "Melee Weapon Usage List"). That list is were individual uses are added, duplicated or removed.

# Ranged Weapon Usage List
The Ranged Weapon Usage List is a collection of ways to use a range weapon to inflict damage from a distance, such as throwing, shooting, or mail delivery. This list is available for all [equipment](./Equipment.md), but only applies to range weapons. A toaster, for example, could be used as a range weapon, but flying toast has limited potential for injury.

See [Ranged Weapon Usage](./Ranged%20Weapon%20Usage.md) for details on configuring an individual entry.

## Usage
*For common list functionality, see [List](./List.md).* **Read that first.**

Operations specific to Ranged Weapon Usage lists are detailed here.

### Add
Each item can copied to other lists with drag and drop.

### Modify
Edit items in the detail editor.

## Columns
- **\<usage>** : type of usage
- **SL** : Skill level, based on character sheet, otherwise 0
- **Acc** : accuracy
- **Damage** : base damage for weapon, modified by character sheet values
- **Range** : maximum distance
- **RoF** : rate of fire
- **Shots** : rate of fire
- **Bulk** : weapon size
- **Recoil** : likelihood of getting knocked on your butt
- **ST** : required to use

These fields are weapon statistics for GURPS (B268-271). Results are calculated by the values of the weapon and character sheet. Some are empty until applied to a character sheet.
