Core functions
These are the functions that so far have been identified as essential to the project.
-
Marking tools. Two tools will be available: one for marking text and one for marking any feature that doesn't belong to the main body of text, e.g. marginalia, drawings/images, booksellers/library marks.
-
Text marking tool: the tool allows to drop a range-bar over a line of text and to add range to mark individual words. Visually, Elessar looks like what we want.
-
Feature marking tool: This allows to draw a box around extra-text features. For marginalia, we want the ability to transcribe as well as marking the area as separate from the main body. See issue #9.
-
Feature drop-down: On selecting the feature marking tool, the user will be able to select the appropriate element, e.g. 'pointing hand'. This will trigger the appropriate workflow, e.g. if 'pointing hand', draw a box and add keyword(s) and don't transcribe.
-
Transcription dialog. Very much like annoTate's. Includes: TEI tags (insertion, deletion, illegible, unsure, foreign language?), discard/save buttons.
-
"Next subject" button. Takes the user to the next subject to transcribe. On clicking the button a dialog is shown asking the user "Have you transcribed everything?". Regardless of the answer the user will see the next subject. See issue #8.
-
Abbreviations keypad. It reproduces all the main abbreviations on a keyboard-style arrangement. Abbreviations are sorted from more to less common. Photographic examples are shown on hovering over each abbreviation. On clicking on an abbreviation, the corresponding text is sent to input box of the transcription dialog. If the transcription dialog is not open the clicking should be disabled. See issue #14.
-
Whole subject thumbnail. This helps the user to keep track of the context. It shows the whole subject and the area the user is currently zooming into is highlighted. See issue #15.
