this is #316 with an added commit that refactors offscreen out of
backend.js, to minimize the impact of offscreen considerations onbackend.js.i have confirmed that scanning with dictionary media still works on firefox and chrome.
(also,
_onApiOpenCrossFramePortwas moved up into the API section, as i misplaced it at the bottom of the class when it was originally added)
