I decided to use the shortlinks microformat described by http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-shortlink because according to this page (https://github.com/mozilla/f1/wiki/Page-Meta-Properties), "There are a number of different attempts at a standard for this, the rel="shortlink" appears to be the winning standard." If there are other standards I am not aware of I would be happy to add support for them.
