Who are you?
My name is Ruben Henares and I'm a Technical Artist working in the video games industry.
I'm originally from Barcelona (Spain) but I've been living in the US for the last 9 years, currently in Santa Monica CA.
I've been working in the games industry for about 20 years now at companies like Blizzard, Lucas Arts, Ubisoft, Apple and Riot Games. Very fortunate to be part of games like Monkey Island, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Far Cry 4, The Division, Diablo IV and some others.
I love my job as much as I love my personal projects, especially those that connect the physical and digital worlds. Coding, electronics and manufacturing, the combination of those 3 areas is what's appealing to me.
Always looking at opportunities to create technology that's accessible to everyone and makes our lives better.
What are you working on?
Currently I'm in the process of launching my latest open-source project maxmix.
Maxmix is a device that allows you to control the volume of any application running on your PC by simply turning a knob.
It's designed to be accessible, using 3d printing and off-the-shelf electronic parts to keep the cost down so that everyone can enjoy it.
How will you use the funds?
Nowadays, creating open-source software doesn't usually require anything other than time. You can have pretty much all the software you need without spending for free, however hardware is a little different.
Prototyping hardware costs money, electronics components, pcb prototypes, 3d printing, shipping to testers, etc. It all costs money. The more you iterate, the better your product, but the bigger the investment.
Funds will be put towards covering those costs and promoting the project to ensure it gets to all of you.
Thank you and don't stop making!
