Hey,
I've converted the build system in this repository to meson. It seems to work fine, debian package is building on bookworm, tests are passing.
I've seen 1.0.8 in a private fork of this repo, I'll leave the merge to authors knowing better what needs to be fixed to make the transition from 1.0.5 to 1.0.8 :)
