Vision Statement: We have two primary goals this semester. The first is to transform Prism from a proof-of-concept program to an actual tool that can be used in the classroom. To that end, Prism must be able to accept user-contributed texts. Our second goal is to make Prism more user-friendly. This includes updating the current design of the website and improving some of the user tools.
This results in the following list of Primary Deliverables:

  1. Adding an OAuth option with Twitter, Facebook, and Gmail
  2. Reworking of Web Design Work Flow and Aesthetics
  3. Adding the ability for users to upload their own text
  4. UX improvement of the highlight tool
  5. Improve the current Visualization

Secondary Deliverables:

  1. Instructional Video
  2. A web page which details the potential of the Collaborative Markup of Images.

Team Member Statement of Goals Shane: My actual top priority is with the UX task for user-contributed uploads. I think that the most fundamental accomplishment for this year's Praxis cohort is to produce some mechanism so that third-party users will be able to contribute their own texts and markup fields and that other such users will be able to access them in some manner (tbd?). Without this basic functionality, I feel that Prism will remain a technical demonstration rather than a practical tool. To this end, my current plan is to first evaluate the present Prism data structure design for compatibility with some of the goals we've already suggested and then eventually to contribute backend and frontend code in support of user upload functionality.

Design Team: Brandon will begin trying to figure out OAuth while Cecilia and Gwen begin to learn CSS and work on the aesthetics and visuals of the website, we have already begun a few mockups that we will present to the group. Then the three of us will work on tackling user uploads next. And finally, if there is time we will create a video tutorial of Prism

Cecilia: This semester I will work on the redesign of the Prism layout with Gwen, focusing on the CSS layout and the the design aspects of usability. In addition I will be conducting a research project surveying the current tools that address image annotation and the intellectual arguments about image annotation in the digital humanities.

Chris: I'd like to work on improving the highlighting tool and the current visualization. I can also work on text uploads if no one else is going to take this on (maybe Shane wants to take the lead in this area?). So...until I hear otherwise I'm going to: 1) start trying to understand the code for the current highlighting tool, 2) start making mock-ups of ways that it could work differently.
