What makes a Pop Popsicle?

psygreg edited this page Jun 21, 2024 · 8 revisions

Although Popsicle! stays close to Pop!_OS in most things, it does feature some relevant changes:

  • Wayland is enabled by default, supporting multimonitor setups out of the box;
  • Uses plasma-discover as its dpkg and flatpak frontend, instead of Pop!_Shop, to make it lighter yet keep it fully featured;
  • Uses the linux-xanmod kernel for improved performance, also adding its repos to keep it up to date and allow you to install an even more optimized version of it for your CPU's microcode seamlessly;
  • Adds the moe.launcher repo for flatpak systemwide so you can start playing certain anime games easily by downloading their launchers at gnome-software.
  • Includes Timeshift, a system snapshot manager to create and manage system restore points.

Since 22.04-2:

  • Snap removed to avoid issues typical of Snap packages.
  • Includes Waydroid, an Android KVM for Linux, so you can play your favourite Android games with a controller, and its repo.

Since 22.04-3:

  • All Libreoffice packages removed since many people want to use different Office suites or rather use Google Docs. You can install it if you wish from Gnome Software.
  • Live filesystem compression changed to xz to make the image lighter.
