Requesting Items with Aeon

Some materials managed within Special Collections must be requested through Aeon, rather than through our current system. This is done at the item level for things like archival/manuscript collections and other materials which can only be used in the Special Collections Library's reading room.

Instead of displaying "I Want It" (these are not holdable:true, or if they are it's because there's an item in the record that's holdable and only that will be put on hold) we should display links per item to request the material be held in the SCL reading room.

Request Archival Materials Using Aeon

  • If the item is in library UP-SPECCOL, add a link to "Request Material" to each item. (leave current location text too)
  • If the item currentLocationID is ARKTHESES or AH-X-TRANS, these currently have scan request links AND Aeon links -- this may be something

Aeon mappings for Archival Materials:

  • ReferenceNumber: catkey
  • ItemTitle: 245ab title
  • ItemAuthor: personal, corporate, or meeting author (1xx, not 7xx)
  • Location: currentLocationID mapped
  • ItemEdition: edition_display_ssm
  • Call Number: CallInfo/callNumber
  • ItemPublisher: publisher (260b:264|*1|b)
  • ItemDate: 260c:264|*1|c
  • ItemNumber: ItemInfo/itemID (which is the Barcode)
  • ItemInfo1: restrictions_access_note_ssm
  • Genre: See below
  • Value: See below
  • SubLocation: 799a field if it exists, can be multivalued and joined with separator ; . See Rare Book sample below. new Spring 2024 - we are adding 857a if it begins with our ARK prefix ark:/42409 in order to support new LIBSAFE links.

Genre & Value logic:

If itemTypeID == ARCHIVES
    Genre = ARCHIVES && Value=GenericRequestManuscript
else
    Genre = BOOK && Value=GenericRequestMonograph

Request Digitization of Archival Thesis

We don't lend Archival Theses, so we include links which sends the user to a digitization request in Illiad or to request in Aeon to use the item in Special Collections.

If currentLocationID of an individual item is ARKTHESES or AH-X-TRANS, display the following links:

Aeon mappings for Archival Theses:
