#Introduction
What is Interactive Rendering?
PRMan's new RIS engine allows for an artist to see a realtime preview of what the final render will look like. This is called Interactive Preview Rendering. It is a special mode where PRMan is actively running (typically at lower sample/quality settings) while aspects of a scene are still being determined. The image in the renderer will automatically update itself to reflect many of these changes. It is important to note that this image is not an approximation or simulation of the final image, as it is being generated by the same rendering engine used for final images.
#IPR Features
It should be mentioned that not all scene edits will be immediately reflected in the IPR session. In some cases the session must be closed and restarted to see changes.
Edits that result in instantaneous updates:
*Changes to material BXDF's, BXDF parameters, and pattern nodes
*Changes in lighting intensity, color and position
*Changes in camera position
*Lights are added to scene
Edits that require a restart:
*Changes in light geometry (size, type)
*Any changes in scene geometry. This includes moving objects, adding or deleting them, or changing settings in the displacement shader
*Changes to camera parameters such as DOF (depth of field) or motion blur
