- When you boost a post on Mastodon, you're sharing someone else's post on your home timeline. The URL of the post remains the same, even after it has been boosted.
- If the original user edits the post after you've boosted it, you will receive a notification that the post has been edited, similar to this example:
Nick edited the post

This ensures that you are aware of any changes made to the content you have shared.
- If you have not boosted (reshared/retweeted/reblogged) a post, you will not receive any notification about edits, even if you already follow the original user.
- For replies, you will not receive any notifications about edits, regardless of whether you have boosted (reshared/retweeted/reblogged) the post.
Ben's thought's about this.
The reason for trying to understand this is to understand how the information is diffused. It's diffused more if people are alerted to the updates and less if the update is the only thing anyone ever sees. This will inform us if it's more like a "retweet" or an original tweet, which will tell us how we need to categorize the updates when it comes to filtering the data. If we're scrapping all the retweets, we won't bother with the updates if they're more like a retweet. If they're more like an entirely separate post, then we might want to keep them in that category.
