What is paathshaala ?

Please dont consider this wiki up to date. We are still building this.

The word literally means school in hindi. Its a place to learn and share information.

Paathshaala is a content sharing repository inside [National Institue of Technology, Calicut] (http://nitc.ac.in). It currently maintains and manages videos alone but will soon be scaled to handle multiple formats like documents and slides.

The project is maintained by Jaseem Abid and Vipin Nair. The source code is open and published in github.

It is build using latest web technologies like html5, css3, ECMAScript5 etc. The videos are converted to ogv format and streamed using the native <video> tags of html5. This allows us to play videos in modern browsers without adobe flash player. We are not saving multiple video formats and streaming it on all possible devices like a arch linux installed kerosine powered cheese gator. We believe that IE6 must die. We support only modern browsers.

Major developement tools / softwares used :

  • Code deployed in PHP5, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Shell for SOP.
  • Database : Postgres 8.4.7 , CouchDB
  • Webserver : Apache2, nginx/1.0.4
