Model Library
A model library with basic models for HVAC components and systems should be developed that provides to collaborators a basic model library that can be extended and customized to suit specific project needs. The aim is to provide basic models, such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers and controllers, that can be used
- to assess the performance of integrated building systems,
- as a starting point to add more detailed models such as needed for product development, and
- to simulate boundary conditions for the above detailed models.
In addition, an interface should be developed to the Building Controls Virtual Test Bed to allow co-simulation with EnergyPlus and with MATLAB/Simulink.
The implementation should be realized using the Modelica language as it is an open-source language that is well-posed to become the de-facto standard for modeling of dynamic systems. Models formulated in this language can then be used by different modeling and simulation environments for Modelica.
Development of a basic modeling library has been started. See http://simulationresearch.lbl.gov/modelica. The interface for co-simulation is available from http://simulationresearch.lbl.gov/bcvtb.
