CARMA January 2025 (Release)

This is the release version for the CARMA January 2025: Introduction to Python for Research course, presented virtually from January 6 to January 9 (US Eastern Standard Time; UTC-5), with some adjustment for scheduling workarounds.

The 2.3.0 release upgrades key packages and the container image to their latest versions, and it includes a significantly reworked web scraping example.

CARMA June 2024 (Release)

This is the release version for the CARMA June 2024: Introduction to Python for Research course, presented virtually from June 13 to June 15 (US Eastern Daylight Time; UTC-4).

The 2.2.0 release upgrades key packages and the container image to their latest versions, and it includes a test of a new slide deck using Quarto and RevealJS.

The 2.1.0 release upgrades key packages to their latest versions and makes minor content updates.

CARMA June 2023 (Release)

This is the release version for the CARMA June 2023: Introduction to Python for Research course, presented virtually from June 5 to June 8 (US Eastern Daylight Time; GMT-4).

This is my 2.0.0 release, which has some notable updates:

• Moved to devcontainers from Anaconda. This is a lean-forward best practice for managing software versions for projects, and it allows for easy use of Github Codespaces, which is, among other things, an easy cloud environment for learning.
• Changed the SQL segment to Jupysql, which lets us run queries using a cell magic.
• Added a number of technical infrastructure improvements, like code formatting and automated testing, to make it easier to update the main content, while keeping everything (provably) working well.
• Added administrative improvements, like a license, citation info, and a DOI.

All of the materials are included, though we will be doing an abridged version of the first six segments listed in the readme. You can find the slides in the prior release.
