X-platform (though a __decl_spec export should be added on windows)
Do not use deprecated classes
Removed .exp link flags
Added she bang, since not build using setup.py
No patch needed anymore (recent GCC or Clang)
doc/*.txt should be turned into markdown
doc/INSTALL.txt should list alternative build methods

Caveats:

setup.py to be updated accordingly
