SC-79 introduces a new category of cross-certificate: cross-certificates that either certify Root Public Keys and those that certify Subordinate CA Public Keys.

Concretely, the list of cross cert types goes from:

  • INTERNAL-CROSS-CA
  • EXTERNAL-CROSS-CA

To:

  • INTERNAL-CROSS-CA
  • EXTERNAL-CROSS-CA
  • INTERNAL-SUBSCRIBER-ISSUING-CROSS-CA
  • EXTERNAL-SUBSCRIBER-ISSUING-CROSS-CA
