3. Creating Metadata

How to create metadata for new StreamCat layers

We are using the EPA Open Data Metadata Editor now to edit metadata as non-spatial metadata records. Make sure to sign in with your EPA credentials. Go through the following steps to create metadata for any new metric:

1. Add metric details to StreamCatMetrics.csv
2. Generate UUID for the metric here or at a UUID generator site
3. Add metric information to O:\PRIV\CPHEA\PESD\COR\CORFILES\Geospatial_Library_Projects\StreamCat\MetaData\submit_metadata_StreamCat.csv, replacing any records currently in the file with new metrics to submit (pulled from StreamCat_metrics.csv in the same folder).

Ensure that the title and final table name fields contain human-readable text for acceptance into the editor.

Note that a maximum of five metrics can be loaded into the EPA Open Metadata Editor at a time. Do not exceed five metrics in the submit_metadata.csv. This includes:

a. uuid

b. title

c. final table name

d. contact

e. contact Email

f. description

4. Run StreamCat_write_edg_json.py
5. Open the EPA Open Data Metadata Editor in a browser
   • Log in with EPA credentials
   • Click on EPA icon in upper left and choose 'Load' > 'from local file'
   • Select O:\PRIV\CPHEA\PESD\COR\CORFILES\Geospatial_Library_Projects\StreamCat\MetaData\completed_metadata\StreamCat_metadata_"Date Run".json
6. Add a 'Yes' to 'MetadataPublished' column in StreamCat Control table
7. Add metric information to O:\PRIV\CPHEA\PESD\COR\CORFILES\Geospatial_Library_Projects\StreamCat\MetaData\StreamCat_Metadata_Archive.csv

Once the editor is filled out completely, none of the required fields should be highlighted with a red 'X'. Click on the paper airplane icon at the bottom right hand side of the page. This icon will be highlighted in green if all of the information is valid.

You will receive a message that the Metadata has been submitted succesfully.
