Timezone Codes

You can ask any nxtp server to give you the time in your current location. The time you receive will automatically be adjusted for your timezone, including any daylight savings time currently in effect.
In order to do this, you must send a timezone code in the -z parameter. For example:
.nxtp time.nxtel.org 12300 -z=RomanceStandardTime
will give you the current local time in Madrid, Spain. If you omit the -z parameter, you will automatically get UK local time, including any daylight savings currently in effect. This has the same effect as specifying -z=GMT.
Please use the list of global timezones below to determine which timezone Code (in the first column) to use. If you are not sure, pick one which has the same UTC offset and DST applicability as your current location.

*Generally you should not choose UTC, as this deliberately ignores any daylight savings time. It will give you the UK winter time all year round, which is probably not what you wanted.
When you use a code which has DST, the nxtp server decides which dates the daylight saving applies for, based on the current legislation in effect for every country. For example, European DST starts and stops on different dates than it does in the USA.
As legislation changes, server operating systems receive automatic updates of the rules to apply, which are then automatically used by the nxtp server.
Very, very occasionally, new legislation causes a new timezone code to be created. In such an event, the table on this page will be updated to reflect this. You would probably know about such changes in your own country, well before it happens.
