Please bring the following items with you to the classroom
- Your own laptop & power supply
- Headphones or earbuds
- Water bottle or travel mug
- You'll need a GitHub account to complete the collaborative development exercises. Please sign up if you don't already have an account.
- We will provide a Docker Image with everything you need for development on the first day of class; however, if you have time please install current versions of Docker ahead of time.
- You'll also need a text editor or IDE to edit your rails application. We like TextMate, Atom, RubyMine, but any good text editor you're comfortable with will do. Syntax highlighting and code completion are nice features to have. We even have friends who use Emacs and vim!
- If you have never used Ruby, you might want to give the Ruby in Twenty Minutes tutorial a try.
NOTE: We’ll also have plenty of time in class to help get you set up. If you run into any problems, we’ll be there to help .
There's plenty to do around UCLA, right on campus, there's
- A sculpture garden
- A botanical garden
- A cultural heritage museum
- A planetarium
- An art museum (ok, it's a few blocks off campus)
And there's lots to explore right off campus in Westwood Village including the historic Fox Theater and the Geffen Playhouse!
