To determine the overall visibility loss, an observation with the instrument GRAVITY_FT (automatic DIT based on SNR) is first simulated (LOW mode, 6 channels) to compute the Signal-To-Noise ratio on the FT target (if defined) using its own model (or V=1 if undefined). The SNR per baseline estimation is the weighted average over spectral channels and the bootstrapping for baselines (triangle method) is applied. The RMS variation of the residual optical path differences (OPDs) is derived from the SNR per baseline and FT parameters (automatic DIT & vibration RMS) to give the RMS variation of the fringe phase on the GRAVITY (SCI) detector per baseline and spectral channel. The DIT is automatically determined to use the longest possible DIT that avoids the detector saturation. This implementation was made in collaboration with Dr. Taro Shimizu, MPE (GRAVITY+ Simulator document + code).
