Growthcraft Nether (Concept)
The Nether, despite too hot for most plants from the overworld, is home to its own assortment of "plants" that can be cultivated: [DEFUNCT]
#Contents#
Ectoplasm: A slimy substance shed and dropped by spiritual entities. Blazes, Ghasts, Endermen, and The Wither all drop it. It can be used as fertilizer for nether crops. It can also be created as a byproduct by placing nether fruits into the fruit press.
Lava paddy: These can be created by using a shovel on soulsand, and then filled using lava buckets, or nearby bodies of lava. Nether crops planted in these grow faster, as they receive the essential heat they need to grow.
Netherrash: A fungus-like organism that can infect humans, it can be afflicted rarely upon the player by digging up the "plants" of the nether. At other times, inert spores may be harvested, which will allow for intentional infection of animals. It can be purposely cultivated by inoculating animals with it, and it provides twice the harvest from animals. Infected animals and humans, when they die, drop some of the spores. Having the spores in your inventory too long WILL infect you. Opening chests in nether fortresses has a small chance of either inflicting you with Netherrash, or just placing an inert spore in your inventory, that might infect you if left too long. A healing potion, milk or a golden apple can stop an active infection in a player. Animals can be cured with splash healing potions, or golden apples, as well as villagers. Players and animals infected with it stop regenerating, and slowly take damage until they die. Villagers can also be infected, in which case they will hide, and stop offering trades, until they die. Arthropods, if infected, will shed it off their body within half an in-game day, curing them. Any organism infected has a small chance of spreading it, with the chances increasing the longer the infected is alive. They can be turned into hyper-extended potions of slowness. Moloch's Compass: A small, flower-like fungus that spawns randomly, it points towards the nearest source of lava, which might prove useful. It can be cultivated using ectoplasm, which is dropped from various spiritual beings (Blazes, Ghasts, Endermen). They can be turned into hyper-extended potions of fire resistance.
Ghost Peppers: A pepper, per se, that can be found in the chests of Nether Fortresses, and cultivated in soul sand. Its fruit can be made into incendiary splash potions, which light the radius around the splash on fire.
Soul Squash: This organism grows in a fashion similar to the pumpkins and melons of the overworld. However, they grow attached to stalks, under soulsand. They can be cultivated, to create a hanging farm of sorts. Very rarely, the stems will drop Ectoplasm, which can be used as fertilizer for all nether "plants". The fruit can be turned into potions of leaping in 1.7, and in 1.8, potions of leaping III and IV.
Cinderrot: A fairly common fungus, it can grow on netherrack, and it can hang from the sides of it as well. It lights you on fire if you touch it, and it can be brewed into Firebrandy, which provides fire resistance, but also lights you on fire. They spread slowly.
Fire lilies: These plants grow on lava. They cannot be cultivated, but, they can be used to craft a lava raft.
Knifebushes: These knife-like fungi grow on netherrack, and when approached, deal large amounts of damage to the player. They spread slowly, and can be used to create makeshift daggers, in case you run out of any usable weapons. They can be turned into hyper-extended potions of weakness.
Strangleroot: A fungus that grows upside from the ceiling of the nether, it entraps flying creatures near it, including players, and slowly digests them. After digesting them, it produces a large, edible mushroom. They can be farmed, if you know what you are doing, and have a source of flying animals for it to eat. They also spread slowly. The mushroom can be turned into speed III and IV potions.
Baal's Rot: A fungus that grows on soulsand, stepping on it inflicts wither, and it can be turned into wither potions. It spawns very rarely, but, spreads slowly.
Muertecap: A very common fungus in the nether, it resembles cinderrot, but, can only be used in potent poison potions (Tier III and IV). If a player ingests this fungus, they will die instantly. Inspiration: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroying_angel
Malice Tree: This tree's bark resembles a patchwork of eyes, and is very fire resistant. The fruit resemble eyeballs, and can be turned into Strength III and IV potions. If the fruit are eaten however, they will give the player weakness IV for 20 seconds, as well as nausea for 40 seconds. They are safe to ingest if fermented into Malice Cider. Malice Cider gives the player a large regeneration buff and a minor strength buff, but, also renders them heavily drunk.
Mara's Lotus: This plant spawns around Nether Fortresses, and grows a flower every so often, that can be harvested and used for the creation of a lava raft, as well as being crafted into hyper-extended water-breathing potions.
Lava Raft: Crafted with obsidian, lava lilies, and a mara's lotus flower, it allows one to travel across lava without being burned.
Phantasm: A ghost, this mob spawns pretty much everywhere at night, or always in the nether and end. They drop ectoplasm.
Soul Bricks: Created by smushing 4 soulsand together, these bricks can be used as a building material, though they are not as strong as nether bricks. Sometimes, they scream when stepped on...
Buer's Fruit: A small, fruiting bush with bush capable of being used as fuel. The fuel is fairly weak, but, very renewable. The fruit can be pressed to make a liquid fuel 3 times as strong as coal.
Baqar: A very weak demon, this being resembles a large insect with a bull's head. It drops meat, and chitin.
Chitin: Used in a form of armor between leather and iron. Also can be smushed for bonemeal.
Note: To create higher tier potions, you need to first create a tier II potion, and then add the ingredient that will make it more potent. Then, to extend your new tier III potion to tier IV, add glowstone dust.
