I noticed that the reference database has not been updated in 4 years. Is the workflow to update them available?

Sorry for the late reply! No guarantees but try the parse-db repository. Not sure how well it performs nowadays after updates to e.g. KEGG brite hierarchy but it may be a good place to start.
