The Mac-os runner does not support gfortran-11 anymore. Therefore I changed it to gfortran-14, which is the most current one supported on the macOS-runner. See https://github.com/actions/runner-images/blob/main/images/macos/macos-14-Readme.md |

fixes #498:
In this PR I added the thinning to the constructor and added further tests to check for this.
The tests also cover the energy loss per step at different energies, and the average photon energy in one step.
