I edited the first 1000 lines for now (both English and German messages).
I hope it is ok that I committed directly to the main branch.

I have got the following addtional comments (please let me know if you prefer me to comment directly in the file instead):

What is the difference between the following:
290 #: geonode/base/forms.py:539 geonode/base/models.py:1027
291 msgid "Use constraint restrictions"
292 msgstr "Nutzungsbeschränkungen"
AND
294 #: geonode/base/forms.py:544 geonode/base/models.py:1034
295 msgid "Use constraints"
296 msgstr "Nutzung”

In my opinion, both "Use constraint restrictions" and “Use constraints” translate to “Nutzungsbeschränkungen”,
“constraint restriction" is kind of redundant

L. 498 to L.506: This section is messy. At which line do you need the institution name versus adress?

L. 527: “Information” or “contact infomation” ?

L. 595: Better “Specification” than “Identification”?

L. 600 "authority or function assigned, as to a ruler, legislative assembly, delegate, or the like."

Better (?): "Authority or function assigned to a ruler, legislative assembly, delegate, or similar entity."

L. 602: The current German translation has a completely different meaning than the English! Which one should I follow?

Again:
L. 679: #| msgid "license of the dataset"
L. 680: msgid "License of the metadata"
L. 681: msgstr "Lizenz des Datensatzes"
Which one to follow? Dataset or Metadata?

Another discrepancy:

L. 878 #| msgid "Remove Remote Service"
L. 879 msgid "Name of the Remote Service if any."
L. 880 msgstr "Remote-Service entfernen"

Are my edits correct?
L 891: msgid "Stores the resource processing state." (Previously ‘Hold’ instead of ‘Stores’)
L 892: msgstr "Enthält den Verarbeitungsstatus der Ressource."

Translation will strongyly depend on context (please provide more info to me):
L. 957 msgid "Alternate"
L. 958 msgstr "Alternative" ODER “Wechseln” ODER …

@silvadealmeida I am currently no longer able to access / edit the file to continue editing. Former link from #177 is no longer valid. If I go to https://github.com/zalf-rdm/geonode/blob/47ef66b22eecc557ca66270efa9313c8f5210bbe/geonode/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/django.po instead, I am not authorized to edit.
