<div class="intro-text">
<p>I am a second year Bioinformatics undergraguate student from UCSD.
I have experience in experimental biology through my volunteering work my first year.
I am well-trained in wet-lab techniques such as gel eletropheresis, western plot, cell culture,
DNA extraction and RNA-sequencing preparation. I've done a project involving understanding how Shp2 expression contributes to the
phosphylation of genes downstream. This experience is what helped me realize that instead of experimental
biology, I am more passionate about computational biology. And as I gained more knowledge about computing from
courses that I've taken, I am intrigued by machine learning. Therefore I volunteered at a bioengineering lab to learn how transfer learning can be apply
to help infectious disease diagnostics. And I took a course on Coursera on Tensorflow so I would be able to build a simpler machine learning model independently.
I am currently working for two computational biology labs so I can learn to work as a bioinformatician.
I write python and bash scripts on a daily basis to help manage pipelines, and maintain data organization on the server.
As of now, I am on two projects. One focus on understanding p53's effects on aging and the other is on developing
a data visualization tool for alternative splicing. For more information on these projects please refer to the
<a href=projects><u>projects</u></a> page.
<!-- <br><br> Besides research, I am also working as a tutor for the UCSD Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
I tutored for CSE8B: Introductory Java II for two quarters and will be tutoring for CSE12: Data Structure next quarter.
I worked on the Programming Assignment Development team to help design the weekly programming assignments for students and held tutor hours
twice every week to guide students through the assignments and course materials. I also wrote scripts, and designed test cases to test the students’ implementation.
Through this position, I gained a lot of experience in utilizing Object-Oriented design and reviewing others’ code, which helped
me understand more about how to develop bioinformatic tools.
<br><br> In the future, I would like to contribute to cancer research, especially advancing diagnostics technologies.
Personally, I think most of research resources and efforts has been dedicated to therapeutic, and not much to
diagnostics. I believe being able to detect cancer at an early age is just as, if not more, important than
curing cancer. I want to be able to help develop non-invasive, point-of-care technologies that will help
with early stage cancer diagnostics. This is exactly what I am looking forward to work on this summer. I will be working at
Stanford for the 2020 Cancer Systems Biology Consortium (CSBC) & Physical Sciences in Oncology Network (PS-ON) Summer Research Program
hosted by NIH. I am very excited to learn at a such prestigious institute.
<br><br>I am actively looking for co-op opportunity for the school year 2020-2021 and
internship for summer of 2021.I am seeking for
software engineering, data analytic, and computational biology research position, especially
on machine learning related projects.
I am also interested in developing bioinformatics tools that help speed up the data analytic process, maintain
pipelines, manage workflow, and provide data visualization.
If you think I am a good fit, please contact me through my email below.
I look forward to hearing from you! -->
