In my case, I had the same error in CI and I couldn't archive it.
The cause was that the Stack of Bitrise was still Xcode 10.3.
When I specified Xcode 11 or higher, it worked.
It's not directly related to this framework, but I'll leave a note to help others.

@riscait and @myiosemail thank you for posting about this, I'm having the same issue. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much restricted to using XCode 10.1 for now, do you know if there is a way to resolve this problem for that version?

Dark mode is supported in v4.1.0, so if you use v4.0.1, you can probably I think it also works with Xcode 10.1.
