Step 1: Be grinch
Step 2: Change the state of your bag, this can be done by unequipping it or collecting 10 or so items

Once you have done step 2 you can no longer vent crawl, you will notice this happens after your bag icon changes to get a little bit fatter. This will still prevent you from ventcrawling even if you empty the bag or unequip it entirely
