Welcome to the hello-spot wiki!
This Wiki will detail information regarding the Spot Robot. BEFORE YOU OPERATE SPOT YOU MUST BECOME AN "AUTHORIZED OPERATOR". The Manuals that came with Spot contain all the information one needs to operate Spot safely and effectively. However, to operate our Spot specifically, there are additional Rules under "Lab Policy for Operating Spot". Please see the section below for becoming an Authorized Operator. Reminder: BEFORE YOU OPERATE SPOT YOU MUST BECOME AN "AUTHORIZED OPERATOR"
We take safety seriously in the lab. As an Authorized Operator, you will be responsible for knowledge pertaining to the robot, and for ensuring the safety of yourself, bystanders, office space, and the robot itself. Luckily, the manuals that came with Spot contain all the information one needs to operate Spot safely and effectively, but to become an Authorized Operator, you will need to acquire knowledge pertaining to the safe and effective operation of Spot and follow lab rules for operating Spot in our campus spaces. This is to be taken seriously as Spot has the potential to cause harm to people or objects. You must NOT operate Spot unless you have completed the necessary training.
Becoming an Authorized Operator involves 3 steps:
- Learn how to operate spot safely and effectively in general. You will need to read excerpts from the "Spot Instructions for Use" which details important safety considerations and operational instructions.
- Learn how to operate the Spot in our campus spaces, you will need to read the Lab Policy for Operating Spot.
- Talk to the PI who will confirm that you have done 1 and 2 and will "sign off" that you are an Authorized Operator. Once you are an Authorized Operator you must add your name to the list of Authorized Operators before operating spot.
To become an Authorized Operator, follow the steps in the Wiki on: (1) Authorized Operator Training page, and (2) Lab Policy for Operating Spot
