MySQL 5.7 End of Life - October 21, 2023

Mateira will need to upgrade to a newer mysql version soon. As it is now, there are a few barriers to installing 5.7 one as current distros are starting move on to MySQL 8 in their package managers.

AWS says they will support 5.7 till the MySQL community end of life - which is Oct 21 2023

Upgrading mysql has implications on the underlying drivers, fuelphp's orm, and, of course any custom queries we're using. It may just work, but it may also require some significant changes.

My napkin math notes thoughts on how to proceed:

1. Investigate compatibility & estimate the investment required to update
2. Discuss and weigh options based on work required and general direction Materia wants to go in
3. Split up tasks into issues and establish a timeline
