Question: Is there a way to reference a solution from a project config

Well... It depends what you are trying to do but there is at least two ways to approach this:

• Use a specific fragment(new?) in that project and refer it in that solution.
• Use a derived class of your project in the solution and in the derived class you modify the settings you want. We are using this approach internally for some projects.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll explain what I'm up to, but I think you have answered my question well.

I would like the settings used when pulling in an external dependency to be conditional on the solution that's being generated. For example our game engine core might be used by the game client (its own solution) and also a dedicated server (another solution): maybe the game engine core has some logic that differs between these scenarios.

Having some reference to the solution we are generating a project for could allow us to more easily have that kind of conditional logic.

I understand there are different ways for us to organize our projects or to achieve the desired effect in a different way. I'm not blocked on this.

We only generate one solution at a time so are able to hack our way to this end by having the solution set some global state. Not ideal long term but it gets the job done for now.

In our internal engine we generate engine, toolmode, server solutions all from the same sharpmake solution class. Each of them use different projects and have different target lists. So, it is really doable. You just have to tweak the dependencies, output files for each of your fragments.
