Group feature is confusing #5
Comments
Hey I made an gif, hopefully this helps
yeah i agree it's not that intuitive (my fault)
and i should also make some more documentation like this.

Some basic documentation would add a lot of value. If there is any, I
can't find it. Only the
one tip, and the Readme file (which is not a User's Guide).

I agree with you 😺 But Thanks for this MARVELOUS extension, I use over 50 extensions Userscripts/Userstyles and SearchCenter is one of the two I use the most everyday. (The other is https://greasyfork.org/fr/scripts/7543-google-search-extra-buttons/). Later this year if I find some time I will try to contribute by improving the "intuitiveness" of the extension, just refreshing the CSS will help a lot and adding some manual/guite inside and outside the extension. BTW the GIF link in the previous message is broken, here's another one that seem to work: Suggestion: you should add a link to this Github Repo in the Chrome Web Store description, this way other users could contribute and push commits to improve the extension. Best Regards |
BTW here's my SearchCenter engines export file if someone want to use it, I've added more search engines: Just Import the file: Regards |
Say, it is very thoughtful of you to get back to me in such a fast and
detailed way! I was
working on this, reply when I saw your video. That's great. I more or
less figured it out by
reading your release notes in "What's New?". I think it is still worth
your while to be adding
something like that. You will understand why I say that in a minute, if
you don't know already.
Your file... eBay, Reddit, Aliexpress, Wikipedia, Amazon.. and more..
Thanks, those will be
great to have. (It reminds me that I may add a custom wayback machine.)
I also would like to thank you also for the time you took to address
another question someone
posted about FINRA (bond) searches. That is a VERY long URL, and must have
taken you some time.
You should know that I am using it also, and it works great.
I am writing in part becuase I saw that you seemed a little surprised
that your extension,
that you shared you had not been paying much attention to for years was
suddenly
getting installed a lot. I am thinking that you must know by now, at least,
why that
is, but just in case you don't, here below is the URL of a YT video where
your extension was praised and
deomnstrated. The guy explaining its value (Keith Gill) made 7.8 million
dollars just on one stock
in under 8 months. He no doubt made money on others as well using it.
So a lot of investors who know that really all of Wall Street missed this
stock; that only Keith Gill
(aka Roaring Kitty) and Michael Burry apparently understood that Gamestop
was not a has-been
with an anachronistic technology of plastic cartridge games in the age of
SAAS --- was undervalued,
but also that only Keith was eloquent and SMO-present enough to create an
army of believers
on Reddit and Twitter...
So now those investors (like me)....are seeking to
understand his process, so as to
mirror not just his picks but has method for evaluating them. Becuase we
don't trust Wall Street, and
Bloomberg talking heads to tell us what has value, or not.
His story is fascinating to me, and not entirely dissimilar. I am older,
and spend less time on Reddit's
investor subreddits (but MAYBE I NEED TO CHANGE THAT!) We are similar in
that we both lost
our jobs, and spent time we were at home learning how to get better at
investing.
Becuase of him I wanted to also try SearchCenter. Especially, since as
an individual investor
myself, I had fashioned something not entirely different, just ten times
clunkier, because I don't know
JS. Only recently have I learned some Python, SQL and have been leveraging
Google Finance a lot, so
my dashboard / Search Center was built before Python as a Windows batching
effort (Not even PowerShell).
But it is browser agnostic, and allows easily tapping into local resources,
as well. In short, I open other
apps and folders and files with Explorer, Excel, etc.. But for the browser
based stuff I love your extension.

My stock ticker lookup doing the same thing - launches multiple searches
at once with the
single ticker entry.
I just thought that you might not be aware of why multiple installers are
all asking about FINRA.
and about personal finance related search sites.
Too coincidental not to share some connection, I'm sure you figured..
It is a really practical example of coding (from my perspective,
clearly). I thought to
be sure you know, because you are going to see more (not less) traffic and
questions based on how popular those
videos are becoming. Unless he is forced to take them down. Even then!
The kitty is out of the bag.
He is a cult hero, as the David and Goliath spectacle of quarter trillion
dollar financial institutions and
Congress take him on. The guy who brought Robinhood to its knees is now
the target of a class action
suit, while the whole world is watching; ...and he is a big fan of yours!
.
So am I. He pointed the way.

Are donations still discouraged? Maybe disable the 'Donate' button if they are? |
It is not intuitive how one would use the Group feature, and make changes to it,
including adding custom searches to a Group (only? Is that possible?)
Some basic documentation would add a lot of value. If there is any, I can't find it. Only the
