Hi there,

I'm wondering how big the work would be to have a way to export emails in .eml format, by keeping the structure of the folder ?

Is it something that's it's not possible or simply not -yet- implemented ? Exporting in .eml exist and keeping the structure (mbox format only) are both already existing.

I'm rather interested to dig into the code if it would be possible as it doesn't seems to be that complicated (as both function somehow already exists). Of course, I've only limited amout of dev. skill so a bit of help would be more than welcome.

PS: Ultimately, I would love to have a feature to automatically do that for email older than 6 months, but this seems to be a bit more complex on the current state.

Your suggestion sounds reasonable. So you understand my current position, as part of the Thunderbird team focusing on extensions, I forked and took over the original extension by Paolo to is not able to continue supporting extension. I have therefore most exclusively focused on the mechanics of upgrading for 68. This combined with the fact that I do not use .eml format means I do not have insight into that. If you are interested in taking the lead on this, I would be happy to work with you. I'm currently upgrading several other extensions so I will have to slow walks this.

Well, not sure I'm the good person to lead any developpement, but with some insight (I do have a small dev. background) I guess it won't be that complicated but .... I'm probably already wrong by stating this :)
However, I guess it won't harm anyone if I already start digging somewhere, but this would be my first in Thunderbird extension dev.
Any tools, language or starting point I may look at first ?

extensions are all in JavaScript. I use Visual Studio code editor.
I would get your feet wet by setting up Hello world From the DTN site.
You can also fork this repository for experimentation.
You can then play around with modifying the extension and loading locally.

Hi @cleidigh,
I just wanted to inform you that I've dropped the project. I was doing that on my "own project" time at #job but didn't want to lose more time.
I didn't suceed to achieve anything and 2 whole afternoon lost isn't worth losing another one.
Too bad, the product (and this features) would be really useful for many people (a lot of friend/co-worker would have using it).
Maybe by tagging this issue in the way other developpers can have a look would help ?
I let you decide on this.
