I activated the plugin on my localhost powered by DesktopServer and upon going to Media > Splashing Images, get this:

PHP 5.5.24, cURL support enabled v7.30.0

Any idea?

Sounds like the certificate bundle that is on your local machine is outdated. Have you updated your OS recently?
