While I like vaults in Notesnook, if I have different writing modes, let's call them "Profiles" such as: Work, Family, Private Journaling, Private Writing, etc. it's difficult to sort out different notes visually and see where I left off in a particular mode, and even more difficult to keep them private, for instance if someone is watching me taking a note.
For instance, while at home I did some notes about Family, some Private Writing, and some Private Journaling, but when I'm at work looking for the last note I took it's not going to be at the top. And I have to make sure I've put those notes in the correct tag, notebook, or something to keep them separate. Also, anyone watching me work will see the titles of potentially private notes that I might not want to share.
What's the solution you'd like to see in Notesnook?
This idea could be incorporated in the Notebooks feature, or a new Profiles feature could be created.
Thinking of this outside of the digital world, this would be like having many physical notebooks. Opening a different physical notebook means you can't see notes in your other physical notebooks. You could put a lock on one of the physical notebooks, requiring a key (vault password) to open the physical notebook. You could copy one note to other physical notebooks, so that note existed in your other physical notebooks (treating this feature like a tag when it's digital notebooks).
Digitally, it could be similar. When you "open" a Profile/Notebook it only allows you access to the notes that are in that particular Profiles/Notebook. This would keep different sets of notes separate for efficiency and for privacy.
When the account is created, a Main Profile/Notebook is created and that's the "default" Profile/Notebook the user starts in when the app is started. The Default must exist, but it could be changed by the user. Maybe the user expects to mainly be doing work notes and sets the Profile/Notebook Default to their Work Profile/Notebook, for example.
When the users selects a different Profile/Notebook, only the notes created when in that Profile/Notebook (or moved to that Profile/Notebook) are shown. No notes from one Profile/Notebook will be available in another.
When changing to a different Profiles/Notebooks if a profile/notebook is locked, it requires it be unlocked before opening that Profiles/Notebook. At the time of putting in the password, a checkoff box with "Leave this Profile/Notebook unlocked for this session, would leave the Profile/Notebook unlocked until the app is quit, or some preset settings timeout happens.
Some Profiles/Notebooks might be left Un-Locked by the user and would allow fast switching between unlocked Profiles/Notebooks , no passwords needed.
When deleting a Profile/Notebook one would be given a list of the other Profiles/Notebooks the notes would be moved to. Or, you could chose to delete all notes in that profile instead, with some sort of "Are you Sure You want to Delete all the Files in this Profile?" confirmation. There's always encrypted backups if that was a mistake.
Tags could be shared across Profiles/Notebooks.
Searching would be restricted to the Profile/Notebook you are in.
For the marketing folks, perhaps limited number of initial Profiles/Notebooks are allowed in the free version, just enough to show the power of this feature. A lot more Profiles/Notebooks could be available in paid versions.
There might be other features for this that app developers could imagine.
Thanks for your consideration and for an amazing note taking tool!
What alternatives have you considered?
Standard Notes has a Profiles feature that I miss, but it's overall feature set isn't as robust and cool as Notesnook.
