Potree lets you view large point clouds directly in your web browser. It uses WebGL and an automatically generated LOD structure in order to display billions of points in real-time.
We're currently working on a complete rewrite, with prototypes promising an order of magnitude faster LOD generation. Also, Potree 2.0 will be a WebGPU based rewrite. WebGPU, the successor to WebGL, is a modern graphics API that will allow us to implement compute shader based rendering and processing algorithms to improve performance as well as quality of point cloud renderings in future iterations of Potree.
Financial help via github sponsorship would be greatly appreciated, and will help us to continue to work on and maintain Potree, and to keep providing it for free!
* WebGPU based Potree 2, using the upcoming modern graphics API that allows us to implement progressive rendering techniques to achieve high-quality results on medium and low end hardware. * Complete rewrite of PotreeConverter that better utilizes SSDs, with performance improvements of 10x on average. Also, produce ~3 files in total rather than thousands to millions of files as the converter currently does.
