L7mp is a small team of Hungarian researchers and practitioners working on projects related to integrating real-time communications workloads, especially WebRTC and cloud-gaming, into the cloud native ecosystem. Our vision is an ideal world in which WebRTC application/media servers can be hosted over Kubernetes just like any other workload, and everything works smoothly. Our aim is to create the Kubernetes tooling to allow anyone to deploy a WebRTC backend service over any Kubernetes service, be that cloud hosted or on-prem, and benefit from the same security, scalability and observability features we have come to expect from large-scale cloud native applications.

Our main project STUNner is a WebRTC ingress gateway for Kubernetes. STUNner allows to expose a WebRTC media server pool, potentially scaled to hundreds of Kubernetes containers/pods, over a single IP address and port, and load-balance WebRTC sessions across the cluster and seamlessly scale the WebRTC infrastructure using standard Kubernetes workflows. STUNner eliminates the usual hacks required to run WebRTC inside Kubernetes (no more hostNetwork and hostPort), while it maintains full compatibility with browsers, WebRTC media servers and application servers. Meanwhile, STUNner is fully integrated with Kubernetes and provides a smooth CI/CD installation/deployment experience.
