Well go for it! I'm just saying myself, I'd rather get the newer one up to snuff and port that. |
I am developing my own PC games and my control scheme is okay for a
FreeSpace clone but needs work for any tactical or strategy gameplay.

I still see value in this repo as the mouse joystick approach is a lot
simpler. If your goal isn't getting something close to Freelancer it's
still a great way to implement third person spaceship controls.
