I think we should port this to Godot 4 and make this an Official Demo Project.

Not this one.
I actually have a different version lying around based on Brihernandez' newer example https://github.com/brihernandez/FreelancerFlightExample
More accurate to Freelancer and with a more dynamic camera.
Still based on Godot 3 though :D
I'll port it to Godot 4 and upload to Github once I find the time.

Well go for it! I'm just saying myself, I'd rather get the newer one up to snuff and port that.
I still see value in this repo as the mouse joystick approach is a lot simpler. If your goal isn't getting something close to Freelancer it's still a great way to implement third person spaceship controls.
