Clock and Battery Indicator Flash When Updating on Libra Colour #18

Running version 0.3.2 on Libra Colour with firmware 4.39.22861.

I have the clock indicator on the left side of the footer and the battery level on the right side. When either change, a rectangle around the indicator with 'flash' to black momentarily before going away as the time or battery level change in value. I also have a Libra 2 with the latest firmware and this does not happen.

Let me know if I can provide more information.

Thanks,
Keith

Hi @folsomke this seems to be an issue with the new Kobo devices, and I don't think there's anything I can do about it.

See this thread where others are investigating what might cause it.

Thanks for the quick reply, @shermp, and the referene to the MobileReads thread. Hopefully Kobo will eventually fix the underlying cause of the problem. I'll try the workaround of going back to the Home screen and seeing if that stops the flashing. Thanks in general for your support of NickelClock, as well.

For someone else's reference, setting the BatteryType to Both seems to fix the flashing issue.

I've also been experiencing this issue, however I have information to add. Initially, the battery and time items do not have the annoying flashing. However, once you do something that shows something in color on the page (for me it is typically highlighting a word to look it up in the dictionary), the flashing occurs whenever the clock or battery indicator are updated. Returning to Home or My Books resets whatever allowed it to work at the start and the display will not flash until the next time you display something in color on the screen. I sure hope this is something that can be fixed, either in Kobo firmware or with NickelClock.

BTW, my BatteryType setting is set to "both" and that does not fix the issue for me.

You are correct. Only starts flashing after I looked up a word on the KLC.

Is there a possible way that a setting can be added to only update the clock when a page is turned (I can live with being a minute or two late to my bathroom break 🤔 😅)

Thank you for the plugin btw.

It might be possible, but I can offer no guarantee of when I could visit this. My Kobo skills are very rusty at the moment!

No worries. it's a little distracting but not a deal breaker and I rather see the time on the page. (ex Kindle user). I figure if the plugin didn't auto-refresh and only did it when turning the page, I wouldn't notice it.

Thank you for at the very least giving it some thought.

I would love a fix for the flash on only update on wakeup and page turn would be great. Just a plus 1 message. Thanks for the utility. It was driving me crazy not having a clock on the page.

While this was theoretically exactly what I was looking for, I encountered the same issue as the others. I found it really distracting and had to disable it.
