Days 1-2:

What is SEP?

Meet the SEP team and learn more about the program, training offerings, curriculum resources and student community events.

Intro to block-based programming: Scratch and CS fundamentals

In this workshop participants will be introduced to coding and computer science fundamentals using Scratch a block-based programming language. Participants will work on different projects that’ll cover these concepts via interactive projects and simple games.

During lab time, participants will have a chance to develop and work on their Scratch projects with the help of facilitators and other SEP staff.

Days 3-4:

What is the Internet?

Using physical objects, participants will be introduced to a visual model of the internet and learn how different systems come together to create the vast network of computers that we know as the Internet.

Intro to web design: HTML & CSS - Day 1

Intro to web design | HTML & CSS | PD "parking lot" | Tools & Resources

Learn the basics of HTML and CSS, the languages that control the content and style of all web pages. By the end of the day, you will gain familiarity with syntax, coding/design tools, teaching tools, and build a few simple web pages.

Make your web pages do stuff. Add some basic interactivity and learn some ways to speed up development and make buildings sites easier and better.

Day 5:

Intro to Lego Robotics

  • Facilitators: EJ Park and Leo

In this day-long workshop, we'll cover fundamentals of LEGO robotics that will help teachers with the SEP robotics curriculum. Participants will learn their way around the Lego Mindstorms EV3 Kit, build a simple base robot, learn how to program it using the EV3 software and add movement and sensors. We'll also explore useful features and tools of the EV3.
