I'd love a way to just have the route shown without then needing to do the whole 3-d "move along the route" thing.

There's been a lot of discussion on the best UX here, which I won't rehash. Based on what I've seen, I will:

Keep the autoplay timer by default but add a little options box/drawer with an option to disable autoplay.
Add the autoplay timer pause on mobile
Trigger abandon autoplay on "escape" key press

Should be able to update at some point in the next couple weeks
